Special Issue Information

A major dilemma for people who interact with animals is how to ensure an individual animal’s welfare and quality of life, but at the same time ensure that the vast number of other species in their environment are not threatened. This constitutes a conflict between the interest of the individual versus group or species conservation. In a world of diminishing wildlife resources, a serious informed effort in this arena is long overdue.

I would therefore like to state my interest in proposing an issue of Animals on:

"Suggestions and practical ways in which  improved quality of life of individuals can be integrated with species or group conservation". This would be a multi-disciplinary issue which includes both the science and the ethics of integrating individual animal welfare with species or group conservation, and would entertain many arguments and practical considerations which so far have not been properly addressed, even by what has become known as "compassionate conservation".
