Bioinformatics and Systems Biology

A section of Biomolecules (ISSN 2218-273X).

Section Information

The Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Section of the open access journal, Biomolecules (ISSN 2218-273X), publishes review articles on high-impact areas of bioinformatics and computational biology research, original research on outstanding new algorithms and databases in computational molecular biology, and significant biologically relevant discoveries that have been developed through the specialized use of computational tools, methods, and databases. The novel algorithms/databases must be either already widely adopted or hold promise for being widely adopted by a broad community of users, in addition to relying on actual biological data; articles on tools that rely on simulated data are discouraged. The discoveries must bring novel and significant insight into a relevant biological problem. Discovery articles that include validation via experimental data will be given more favorable consideration.

This section invites and publishes original contributions, reviews, and discovery articles that include but not limited to the following:

  • Databases and ontologies
  • Function determination and prediction
  • Gene and protein expression analysis
  • Gene and protein networks
  • Genome and proteome analysis
  • Phylogenetics
  • Sequence analysis
  • Structural bioinformatics
  • Structure determination and prediction
  • Systems biology
