Magnetic Analysis of Lithosphere Deformation

A special issue of Geosciences (ISSN 2076-3263).

Deadline for manuscript submissions: closed (31 December 2018)

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue of Geosciences gathers salient advances in the magnetic analysis of lithospheric deformation. A wide array of magnetic methods have been used to solve rock deformation, tectonic and geodynamic problems across scales. Paleomagnetism provides unique geodynamic constraints that may be used to reconstruct past plate motions and configurations, characterize tectonic systems at the regional scale, or examine deformation associated with individual structures at the local scale. Rock magnetic characterization provides insights into remanence acquisition during the formation and tectonic evolution of lithological units, with, for example, recent advances in magnetic imaging allowing remagnetization processes to be explored at the microscopic. Magnetic fabric analyses are now routinely employed in the quantification of petrofabric development at the micro- to macro-scales, complementing information obtained from other fabric techniques such as electron backscatter diffraction. All of these methods are particularly suited to constrain the physics of deformation in fault rocks. This Special Issue, therefore, invites contributions from all areas where magnetic methods have been applied recently to tectonic problems, and particularly welcomes studies involving methodological advances or innovative applications of these techniques.

It is recommended that authors approach the Guest Editor at an early stage about possible submissions in order to verify the appropriateness of their potential contributions. If appropriate, an abstract will be requested, and the corresponding author required to submit the full manuscript online by the deadline of 31 December 2018.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Geosciences is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
