Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue invites articles revisiting and examining aspects of twentieth-century British culture. It is hoped that the articles we receive will focus on questions of class, race, gender and/or sexuality. Engagement with current debates on periodisation and 'popular individualism' would be especially welcome. Contributors may wish to consider culture in relation to community as well as creativity. The relationship between culture, commerce and consumption might also warrant renewed consideration. The objective is to align British cultural history with wider historiographical currents, removing cultural practice from time- or space-specifc contexts. We hope this Special Issue will thereby engage with and open up areas of study, positing new ways to understand how British culture was shaped by—and helped shape—British society across the twentieth century.
