Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In 2019, an estimated 970 million people worldwide suffered from a mental disorder (13% of the world’s population), which was almost equally distributed among the two sexes. However, the prevalence of each mental disorder varies according to gender and age, despite the fact that anxiety and depression are the two most common disorders in both men and women. In particular, in 2019, anxiety and depression affected approximately 301 million people and 280 million people, respectively.

During the pandemic, many mental health patients had access to continuity of care thanks to the potential of digital health. Unfortunately, as always happens in health services, services have not been provided homogeneously in the different parts of the world and even within the same country there have been services that are more prompt and efficient than others.

The effort of all professionals is necessary to produce evidence that demonstrates the effectiveness of digital health, through the contribution of digital epidemiology which is able to provide insights into the determinants of health in human populations based on different sources of digital data.

Papers addressing these topics are invited for this Special Issue, especially those that combine a high academic standard coupled with a practical focus.
