Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In 1973, Jerrold Schwaber and Edward Cohen developed a method of producing antibodies that involved human–mouse hybrid cells, known as hybridomas. César Milstein and Georges Köhler extended this work in 1975 by introducing polyethylene glycol (PEG) to enhance the technique's efficiency, which led to the development of monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) and earned them the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1984.

Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) are important tools in scientific research, and they have numerous applications across various fields of study. They can be used to identify the presence of proteins, purify target proteins, analyze cell types in blood/tissue, or isolate cells by flow cytometry.

Antibody drugs have already revolutionized the field of medicine, and they continue to be critical tools for treating various diseases. Antibody drugs were initially developed for cancer treatment; later, their use has expanded to other fields, such as immunology, infectious diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases.

With this Special Issue, readers can explore how monoclonal antibody technology has shaped research and medicine over the past 50 years. It will discuss the challenges faced by scientists in developing this technology, its impact on medical treatments, and its potential applications in the future. Original research papers and comprehensive reviews that report discoveries or medical applications focused on mAbs are welcome. Historical essays on mAbs will also be considered.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
