Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Mastocytosis is a rare disease that is characterized by the proliferation of mast cells in different organs. The phenotype of the disease is heterogeneous, ranging from variants with limited skin involvement to aggressive disease with a poor prognosis. Multiple factors, such as genetics and comorbidities, contribute to defining the course and prognosis of mastocytosis.

Recent insights into the pathogenetic mechanisms and genetics of mastocytosis have improved the staging and prognostication of the disease.

Until a few years ago the treatment options for patients with mastocytosis were limited. Recently, the development of several potent inhibitors of KIT has changed the therapeutic landscape in the field of mastocytosis.

The aim of this Special Issue is to publish an overview that focuses on diagnostic tools and validated as well as emerging therapeutic strategies in mastocytosis.
