Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Rivers have played an important role in human history. Rivers create human civilization. For example, the ancient Chinese originated in the Yellow River, the ancient Egyptians originated in the Nile, the ancient Indians originated in the Indus Valley, and the Babylonians originated in the Mesopotamia. Rivers have created significant wealth for people with regard to aspects such as transportation, irrigation, power generation and aquatic products.

Pollution threatens sustainable development in river basins. In particular, improper agricultural activities in river basins lead to water eutrophication and biodiversity loss, which lead to the failure to achieve the comprehensive sustainable development goals. To address this, agricultural green transformation in river basins must urgently be promoted, for example, by reducing fishing activities, reducing inputs of fertilizers and pesticides, and improving the efficiency of recycling agricultural waste. However, the dynamic mechanism of green transformation in river basins is not clear. How do agricultural producers respond to green transition goals? What are the green production intentions and behaviors of producers? How do consumers of agricultural products respond to green transformation goals? What are the green consumption intentions and behaviors of consumers? How can cross-regional governments cooperate in the realization of agricultural green development? Therefore, we call on researchers to pay attention to agricultural green development in river basins.
