Dear Colleagues,
With Poincaré’s work, the study of classical chaos was born. Chaos is a pervasive physical phenomenon in nature and one of the fundamental research topics of nonlinear science. Chaos has been found to play an important role in numerous areas of physics and mathematics. It has also been widely applied in computer science, electronics, economics, biology, and chemistry.
The success of chaotic maps in shedding light on classical chaos has prompted physicists to quantize chaotic maps in the hope that quantum maps will also shed light on the quantum chaos problem. As is the case with classical chaos, chaotic quantum maps not only provide profound insight into quantum chaos but have also opened the door to applications in other disciplines. In the last decade, quantum maps have been widely used in chaos-based cryptography due to their dynamical complexity. Many new possibilities for chaos-based quantum encryption are beginning to emerge. Consequently, we propose this Special Issue of Mathematics as a tool for highlighting recent advances, challenges, and prospects in this field. The following topics, among others, will be covered in this Special Issue: new quantum dynamical systems; new statistical techniques; dynamical degradation of quantum maps; complexity; and security evaluation of chaos-based cryptosystems. Review papers are also welcomed.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
