Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Current trends in wearable technology, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and 5G are contributing to the research and development of the next generation of health technology.

These technologies have the potential to overcome challenges and difficulties that have remained outstanding in specific healthcare applications, including long-term remote monitoring, diagnostic algorithm accuracy, and point of care device connectivity. The new emerging technologies outlined above have the potential to address these issues by facilitating the development of effective ‘healthcare sensor systems’.

The term ‘healthcare sensor systems’ refers to not only the basic sensing element (e.g., sensors, electrodes) but encompasses the entire integrated technology stack that allows any sensing component to be integrated into a health technology ecosystem. This technology stack can include the basic sensor/transducer, instrumentation, digital hardware and firmware, signal processing and related algorithm, connectivity, and cloud integration functionality.

The purpose of this Special Issue is to attract state-of-the-art research contributions, tutorials, and position papers that present the latest research relevant to the development of healthcare sensor systems. Articles that are focused on one particular aspect of the healthcare sensor system stack are also welcome, but it should be clear how this research/technology would integrate to form a holistic sensing system. Research that spans any of the healthcare sensing modalities (e.g., biopotential, electrochemical, optical, temperature sensors) is welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
