Distributed Systems, IoT, and CPS: Enabling Healthcare 4.0 and Smart Healthcare Systems

Dear Colleagues,

In this Special Issue, we explore the various advancements in distributed systems technologies and the use of sensors, IoT and CPS to create and support different types of healthcare applications that could/will constitute the encompassing Healthcare 4.0 and smart healthcare systems. Smart systems require the use and integration of various intricate hardware and software components. These systems also require a well-established distributed infrastructure that can deliver performance and reliability in addition to supporting the collaborative nature of these applications. Advances in sensors, IoT, CPS, distributed architectures, and middleware technologies are making it possible to create sophisticated Healthcare 4.0 and smart healthcare systems. For this Special Issue, we aim to collect some of the research and development results in these to create a collection of state-of-the art works that will help further the advancements in the field and help other researchers and developers as they explore the field and create these systems.

Smart systems in general rely on sensor technologies to operate. It is practically impossible to have a smart application that can operate without some form of sensory data. This makes the topic of this Special Issue highly relevant to the journal.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
