Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Numerous natural processes from biological ones such as carbohydrate–protein interactions to chemical processes such as corrosion occur at interfaces involving a variety of material properties. The same materials properties and interfacial mechanisms have been widely exploited in human-made devices as diverse as sensors, optical displays, and lightweight batteries, and processes as varied as contact, friction, adhesive bonding of solids, and various other dynamic systems. The ability to understand the surfaces of the materials and the interfaces between materials (the border region where two materials come into contact) and the relationships between interfacial composition, structure, and properties of the materials is central to our understanding of these processes and their exploitation. In this Special Issue, we would like to gather state-of-the-art research and development that addresses the benefits and challenges in new material design and their interface characteristics for a broad range of sensor and sensor system developments for clinical diagnostics and therapeutic management. Topics of primary interest include the science of different materials and their interface research, with specific applications in theoretical/computational modeling, new materials development (biosensors and therapeutic agents), and material interfaces design, characterization, and applications in medical research and clinical diagnostics and therapy.

For this purpose, we welcome review articles, original research papers, and short communications covering all aspects of the fundamentals and applications sensing materials and interfaces for sensors/biosensors in clinical settings. Submissions should clearly indicate which open challenges are being addressed by the work. Authors are also invited to contact the Guest Editors prior to submission if they are uncertain whether their work falls within the general scope of this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
