Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to invite you to submit your work to the Special Issue "Circular Economy in Smart Agriculture". Submissions should cover the intersection of circular economy with smart agriculture to promote sustainability, leverage big data solutions for urban food supply chains, enhance efficiency and food security, and harness the competitiveness of urban agri-food value chains in all sustainability dimensions: societal, economic, and environmental. This Special Issue aims to empower impactful research on revealing the potential of smart technologies in adopting circular agricultural practices in urban areas, as well as explaining the importance of implementing circular solutions that facilitate the transition to sustainable agri-environmental systems.

Situated within a rapidly growing body of literature that is dedicated to the exploration of the synergies between circular economy, urban agriculture, and cutting-edge technology, this Special Issue contributes to the discourse by describing how circular economy models can be successfully integrated with smart agricultural technologies to address contemporary challenges in food production and logistics. Moreover, in this Special Issue, the spotlight is on exploring the applications of urban agriculture through the lens of circular economy principles. We are particularly interested in manuscripts that offer a comprehensive examination of how circular economy approaches can transform urban agriculture—covering waste management, resource use optimization, and the promotion of closed-loop systems, where resources are reused, recycled, or composted, efficiently minimizing waste and reducing the need for new resources.

Papers that solve original scientific problems in the field of circular economy in smart urban agriculture are invited. All types of papers, such as original research articles, opinions, and reviews, are welcome to be submitted to this Special Issue.
