Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The article talks about the impact of IEC (International electronic commerce) on Chinese exports.

The structure and logic of the article's narration are good. The theoretical model is given first, followed by the results of the analysis.

Since the data used are for a relatively long period of time, from 2006 to 2019, which is a period of global economic crisis and European debt crisis, the results clearly show and prove that IEC can stimulate the spread of exports in circumstances of crises.

The formulations in the theoretical model are correct.

The research is significant because it provides ideas for dealing with economic crises.

The authors could give a little more detail about the theoretical model of Freund and Weinhold and its application in economics. That way they can clearly show what other authors are currently using this model for and to highlight their own contribution to the development.

Dear Authors,

Thank you for an interesting paper. You chose the topic that is very close to my scientific works. So I was really curious to read it and see opinion and research of other scientists. Also as a mathematician, I tried to follow step by step your model.

Now time for my assessment. I like your paper a lot. It was written in a reasonable way. It has good structure. I would suggest some corrections to make it look better. I hope all my comments you will treat as advices to improve your work. I think this is my task as a reviewer.

  1. First of all check the template of the paper. Because not everything is formatted in the correct way. Especially references.
  2. In Introduction I would suggest to emphasize more the aim of the paper and its contribution to science. In this way reader will know from the very beginning what to expect from your paper. Don't be offended but many readers are not too interesting in China situation. Can you compare it to other countries? You cited many statistics in this part. You should add source of this data, especially that in the text you mentioned e.g. WTO.
  3. Conclusions: Here I suggest to add limitation and future direction of your research.

Besides these errors, I think your paper is very valuable and should be published. Good luck in your future scientific work.

Review of the paper “The Impact of International Electronic Commerce on Export Trade: Evidence from China”

The paper topic is very updated and useful in relation to the new challenges of the global economy

Abstract: suggest to add clear paper aim and study novelty – it will be easy as the paper is quite modern

Introduction: presents very clearly the motivation to the study

Literature review in fact it is a part of Introduction section, maybe it would be better to present it in the separate section and point on the research questions or hypothesis. Please also consider following sources in the literature review:

Materials and methods: theoretical model is well done in my opinion with good relations to the literature.

Also Empirical model is proper as well as its validation however the discussion of the results should be developed in relation to previous studies, especially.

Conclusion: I suggest the Authors to conclude it more universal to present possibilities of its application beyond China.

Reviewer 4 Report

The impact of (international) electronic commerce on (foreign) trade is a topic that hardly requires further research, as it has been widely recognised now that electronic commerce represents a growing slice of the overall sales (this is furthermore true for International commerce considering that electronic commerce is by itself a global agent, overcoming national barriers). Having said that, the authors propose a regression model to highlight the determinants of foreign trade volumes. However, the model is hardly discriminative, since practically all the selected regressors appear to be relevant. In addition, no collinearity analysis is performed, and no attempt is made to understand any mediation or moderation roles that may be present.
