Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear author,

Thank you for writing the comment on the paper of Gomes and Lopes, published in the Journal of Theoretical an Applied Electronic Commerce Research. I have read the original article and your comment in detail. I must agree with your assessment that the claims made in the original article of Gomes and Lopes are unfortunately wrong, as pointed out by your comment. Hence, some of the statements they make regarding gender are incorrect. The authors in the original article furthermore seem to mix up in their conclusion (i) the decision to shop online for groceries (which they do not investigate but partly capture by means of their sample) and (ii) the impact of demographics & consumer behavior in relation to food and beverage consumption on online grocery shopping experience (which they do investigate). For some of the factors, the impact of (i) and (ii) is similar, but for gender it is not, which further adds to the confusion (also within the broader stream of the literature).

I would like to thank the colleague for writing the comment and correctly pointing out the inconsistency and incorrect statements in some parts of the original article. I think it is important this comment gets published, and the authors should be alerted and asked to more carefully report about findings in the future.

Best regards

The paper presents an interesting suggestion

Reviewer 3 Report

I agree with the comment. I see the correlation as not significant, and the beta value is so close to 0 (-0.009) that there should be no discussion of direction. The result is unfortunately misinterpreted in the abstract.
