Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Review: molecules-1786153

I think it's a very interesting manuscript. Results strongly supported by mathematical calculations.

I suggest some formal correction:

In the formula, the wavenumber is correctly denoted by the Greek ν, but in the text the Latin v is incorrect. Same error later, e.g., in line 239.

In equation 4, the notation K appears. The explanation of this is missing

In the figures, I suggest the notation Wavenumber, cm-1 instead of Wavenumber/cm-1. The notation should be consistent because other figures use Wavenumber (cm-1)

In chapter 2.2, what is marked as the α angle? This is missing from the figure.

In equations 12, 13, the correct notation is lg or log10 instead of log10.

Lines 248 and 249: cm-1 is correct cm-1

Reviewer 2 Report

This is an excellent work on the origins and the compensation of basi-line distortions in FT-IR spectroscopy. The mathematical analysis is sound and well performed and the text is written very well. The subject falls precisely into the scope of the journal, hence in conclusion I can strongly recommend publication of the article in your journal.
