Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper titled “4-Benzoyl-2-(4-bromophenyl)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,2-dihydropyrimidino[4,3-c][1,4]benzoxazine-3,5-dione” is devoted to synthesis of single novel representative of pyrimidino[4,3-c][1,4]benzoxazine-3,5-dione raw via [4+2] cycloaddition reaction of ketene generated in-situ by termolysis. This transformation looks very effective and novel. The paper is well written, English is clear and understandable. Experimental part contain all data to significant justification of target structure. I can recommend this paper for publication after minor revisions:

11)      The introduction can be extended by the following reference: [Kamata, Junichi; Okada, Toshimi; Kotake, Yoshihiko; Niijima, Jun; Nakamura, Katsuji; Uenaka, Toshimitsu; Yamaguchi, Atsumi; Tsukahara, Kappei; Nagasu, Takeshi; Koyanagi, Nozomu; Kitoh, Kyosuke; Yoshimatsu, Kentaro; Yoshino, Hiroshi; Sugumi, Hiroyuki Chemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 2004, vol. 52, # 9, p. 1071 - 1081].

22)      Reference [6] misleading that the target compound was obtained earlier, although this is a reference to X-ray diffraction analysisÑŽ For example: “Schiff base 3 gave the target compound 1 in a good yield [6]”.

33)      In 13C NMR spectra some carbons are missing.

Author Response

11) This reference is already present in our manuscript as [3].

22) The structure was web published by the CSD about two years ago, has already been assigned a CSD Refcode and has an associated DOI. That’s why a ref. 6 is required for the compound 1.

33) We added a missing 13C carbon both to the manuscript’s text and SI plots.

Reviewer 2 Report

After evaluating the manuscript “4-Benzoyl-2-(4-bromophenyl)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,2-dihydropyrimidino[4,3-c][1,4]benzoxazine-3,5-dione" I have to recommend its reject.

The chemotype presented in the manuscript has already been published by the authors earlier. (see Aliev; Krasnykh; Maslivets; Andreichikov; Atovmyan [Russian Chemical Bulletin, 1999, vol. 48, #3, p. 608 - 611])

Author Response

Despite the fact that the chemotype is known, the compound 1 (synthetic procedure, spectra) was not reported in the literature.

According to the instructions for authors in Molbank:

One-compound-per-paper short notes: short articles of experimental data records for individual molecules (restricted to only one compound per paper). Any scattered unassembled experimental data for individual compounds which is conventionally not publishable is particularly welcome. The aim of this publication type is to save potentially useful scientific information from being lost. In many research groups, there are unpublished compounds stored somewhere on the shelf (or in the refrigerator) which do not really fit into a full paper, e.g. because the main work in this series has already been published. Nevertheless, somebody else might be interested just in this particular compound, be it for comparison of physicochemical data or spectral properties, biological testing, etc.. The title of an article of this type is just the systematic name (according to IUPAC rules) without any additional words.
