Author Response

We would like to thank Reviewer for the remark “compound was known and its crystal structure was already reported in the literatures such as Z. Kristallogr. NCS 226 (2011) 223-224 / DOI 10.1524/ncrs.2011.0103”

In the mentioned article, only crystal structure has been reported. As the Reviewer mentioned, there are differences when you compare structures with each other. The compounds crystallize in different groups, and the presence of solvent molecule affects supramolecular structure of the compound. Moreover, our short note presents a different type of synthesis and a full analysis with the support of various techniques that are missing in the aforementioned work. With all this information, it is worth considering and publishing also this version of the structure.

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript described the preparation and thermal characterization as well as a crystal structure of a compound named as N,N'-bis(3-ethoxy-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-phenylene-1,3-diamine. While these analyses are thorough and enough, however, this compound was known and its crystal structure was already reported in the literatures such as Z. Kristallogr. NCS 226 (2011) 223-224 / DOI 10.1524/ncrs.2011.0103 and also cited by authors (in reference 2) except for the literature-reported structure containing no solvent with space group P2(1)2(1)2(1) while this manuscript reported structure containing one methanol solvent with space group P-1. It seems to me that there would be no merit to publish a known compound and its structure twice. So, I don’t recommend this manuscript be published in Molbank.

Author Response

We would like to thank Reviewer for the constructive remarks.

Authors mixed up the files when submitting the manuscript. Supplementary materials are included in non-published materials and vice versa.

According to Reviewer’s suggestion we organized the files.

The obtained compound should be better characterized by spectroscopy methods to confirm their structure. Although, Authors performed X-ray structure investigation and FT-IR spectra but the obtained compound should have basic 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra

We agree that the obtained compound should be additionally characterized by 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra. According to Reviewer’s suggestion these analyses were performed and  results were entered into the manuscript.

I propose to transfer table to the manuscript with crystallographic data of the Schiff base, including providing of the CCDC number in manuscript (Table S1).

According to Reviewer’s suggestion we moved table S1. Now Table S1 is in main part of the manuscript (Table 1).

Authors should correct minor editorial mistakes, e.g.: a. notation 6,6’-Dimethoxy-2,2’-[m-phenylene… in line 29 b. notation 6,6’-Diethoxy-2,2’-[4,5-dimethyl-o-phenylene… in line 30

Editorial errors have been corrected.

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

I still believe that the report of this manuscript just repeated the work reported before with same synthesis method and same structure except for using/containing a different solvent. So, I don’t recommend this manuscript be published in Molbank.

Author Response

According to Editor recommendation, we pointed out and made a better comparison between both structures. We have redacted two chapters from our paper (2. Results and Discussion and 2.1. Crystal and molecular structure). All corrections are marked in red, and a new figure presenting a comparison between two polymorphic compounds has also been added. New citations devoted to the topic of polymorph are entered into the manuscript (8-11). Table 1 is transferred to Supplementary Materials as Table S1.
