Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript reports on the synthesis and characterization, including X-Ray diffraction, of a dinuclear Co(III) complex obtained by reacting CoOAc2 and a ONONO-pentadentate Schiff base (H3L) in methanol under oxidative conditions. A closely related dicobalt complex was reported in 2011 by Mitra (corresponding author, not Banerjee) and coworkers. Although English needs a thorough  revision, I recommend publication in Molbank with minor revisions after some points have been addressed:

- the two molecular structures of Scheme 1 should be improved. In particular, the octahedral environment of the metal cation should be represented by using stereo bonds and perspective views.

- the introduction should cite general references about cobalt complexes with Schiff bases. For example J. Chem. Educ. 1977, 54, 7, 443 contains references of interest.

- as the complex is diamagnetic, I am wondering if it would be possible to provide the corresponding NMR spectra.

- a chemical equation for the synthesis of the title compound should be included (2H3L + 2CoOAc2 ---> ....)

- a number should assigned to title compound.

- the use of significant digits in the experimental part has to be revised (for example, 0.500 mmol, 0.124 g)

- please specify how crystallization occurs: evaporation of the solvent or simple cooling?

To be thoroughly revised

We are thankful for the Reviewer's constructive and useful comments. The English language was checked with a native speaker. We have modified the manuscript accordingly. We submit a list of answers and explanations according to the Reviewer’s comments point-by-point:

- the two molecular structures of Scheme 1 should be improved. In particular, the octahedral environment of the metal cation should be represented by using stereo bonds and perspective views.

The octahedral environment of the metal cation have been represented by using stereo bonds. The purpose of Scheme 1 was to show the coordination mode of Schiff base. Replacing the original drawings with perspective views of the complex makes it illegible. The octahedral environment of the metal cation in title complex is presented in Supplementary material.

- the introduction should cite general references about cobalt complexes with Schiff bases. For example J. Chem. Educ. 1977, 54, 7, 443 contains references of interest.

In the introduction, we cited the general literature on cobalt complexes with Schiff bases.

- as the complex is diamagnetic, I am wondering if it would be possible to provide the corresponding NMR spectra.

Unfortunately, we are not able to perform NMR analysis for the complex.

- a chemical equation for the synthesis of the title compound should be included (2H3L + 2CoOAc2 ---> ....)

The Scheme of synthesis has been added.

- a number should assigned to title compound.

The number has been assigned to the title compound.

- the use of significant digits in the experimental part has to be revised (for example, 0.500 mmol, 0.124 g)

The significant figures in the experimental part have been corrected.

- please specify how crystallization occurs: evaporation of the solvent or simple cooling?

Information about the method of crystallization (slow evaporation of the solvent) has been added to the text
