Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This review article summarizes the available data concerning the role of botanicals as a healthy supplement for metabolic disorders related to anxiety.

Some aspects of the manuscript need to be improved before publication.

1. I would recommend making an attempt to comment on and relate the plants listed in part 4 to the compounds in part 5. Why were these particular compounds chosen since they are only found in one of the plants listed Pimpinella anisum. Additional information can be added referring to plants containing these compounds.

2. Figures 1 and 2 are not referenced in the text.

3. The information in Figure 2 is confusing, unclear, and inaccurate. Please, clear the information or remove Figure 2.

- The total number of papers cited in References is 98, but the table lists 192 scanned papers.

- Part 1. Introduction contains 4 papers but 23 are indicated - that's the total in part 1. Introduction and part 3. Metabolic disorders and anxiety

- Which part of the manuscript is a Review?

- The number of papers listed for 2021 is 28, not 30.

- What are the "interested years" - before 2017 or 2017-2022?

4. Many of the papers in the References are not presented according to the requirements - no journal, year, etc. are indicated. Please make corrections.

5. Moreover, the text has spelling and punctuation mistakes which should be corrected. Some of them are listed below:

-Line 15:  “an healthy”

-Line 16:  supplement in for metabolic

-Lines 47,116,336:  “referred to as…” instead of “referred as…”

-Line 108:  “with respect to” instead of “respect to”

-Line 118:  “bioactive compounds” instead of “bioactives”

Please revise the use of commas - many are missing and many are unnecessary.

Some aspects of the manuscript need to be improved before publication.

  1. I would recommend making an attempt to comment on and relate the plants listed in part 4 to the compounds in part 5. Why were these particular compounds chosen since they are only found in one of the plants listed Pimpinella anisum. Thank you for your comment. The aim of this paper is to combine the knowledge about botanicals active on anxiety when they are also active on metabolic disorders. All the botanicals described in sections 4 and 5 comply with this requirement. There is not a direct correlation between plants in section 4 and compounds in section 5.  However, some compounds of section 5 are present in several plants (also listed in section 4). An analysis of this relationship is complex because a different part of plants (buds, lives, bark etc) contain different compounds and several publications did not describe the matrix. Moreover, several papers did not perform an HPLC analysis of their extracts. A sentence has been added to the text and the title of section 5 has been changed.

  1. Figures 1 and 2 are not referenced in the text.

I apologize for the mistake. I have introduced in the text Figure 1. Figure 2 according to the suggestion has been eliminated (see point 3)

  1. The information in Figure 2 is confusing, unclear, and inaccurate. Please, clear the information or remove Figure 2.

According to the referee we have eliminated the confounding figure.

- The total number of papers cited in References is 98, but the table lists 192 scanned papers.

According to the referee we have eliminated the confounding figure.

- Part 1. Introduction contains 4 papers but 23 are indicated - that's the total in part 1. Introduction and part 3. Metabolic disorders and anxiety

According to the referee we have eliminated the confounding figure.

- Which part of the manuscript is a Review?

According to the referee we have eliminated the confounding figure.

According to the referee we have eliminated the confounding figure.

I apologize for the mistake. All the references have been checked.

  1. Moreover, the text has spelling and punctuation mistakes which should be corrected. Some of them are listed below:

I apologize for the lack of accuracy. According to the referee, we have corrected the typos in the text.

Reviewer 2 Report

The review " Anxiety and metabolic disorders: the role of botanicals " is an important issue nowadays with all life requirements and appearance of pandemic viruses that effect on nervous system and led to depression and other related diseases. The review falls within the scope of the journal and constitutes a work with relevant information and literature researches. This paper presents phenolic compounds in plants have an impressive role in the relaxation and uses in pharmaceutical uses for this disease. In summary, with respect to authors there are some corrections.

1-      Abstract not contain any references (you should delete reference from your abstract)

2-      The taxonomy of review needs addition of tables with percentage of disease around the world in different countries and the reasons with adding the percentage of related diseases. Also, is this disease related with the economic issue of individuals?

3-      World health organization supply with map indicated the highest countries with this disease, please add it.

4-      We can add table of plants with their most important phenolic compounds used in treatment with percentage of recovery for each plant.

5-      Finally you can add photos for these different plants.

6-      You can add recommendation for the most effective plants with highest percentage of desired secondary metabolites used in treatment.

7-      Finally, the English should be carefully reviewed since the text contains a number of types and structural problems.

Thank you for your comment. We have added a period in the text explaining the impact of Metabolic syndrome in the world according to a recent meta-analysis of global data from 28 million individuals(Noubiap et al., 2022).

Noubiap, J. J., Nansseu, J. R., Lontchi-Yimagou, E., Nkeck, J. R., Nyaga, U. F., Ngouo, A. T., Tounouga, D. N., Tianyi, F. L., Foka, A. J., Ndoadoumgue, A. L., & Bigna, J. J. (2022). Geographic distribution of metabolic syndrome and its components in the general adult population: A meta-analysis of global data from 28 million individuals. Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice, 188, 109924. https://doi.org/10.1016/J.DIABRES.2022.109924

  • World health organization supply with map indicated the highest countries with this disease, please add it.

Thank you for your comment. I agree with the reviewer that a map might be interesting, however, a metabolic syndrome analysis is lacking on the WHO site. We found several disease-specific reports. For example, the Global report on diabetes (who.int) is not up to date (2016) and therefore we decided to evaluate more recent analysis. Accordingly, we have added a sentence on the recent data regarding the regional aspect of Metabolic syndrome considering a meta-analysis of global data from 28 million individuals(Noubiap et al., 2022).

  • We can add table of plants with their most important phenolic compounds used in treatment with percentage of recovery for each plant.
  • According to the referee’s suggestion, we have introduced a new table (table 1) displaying the information required.
  • Finally, you can add photos for these different plants.
  • Thanks for your comment. We changed the graphical abstract and introduce picture in the table 1. T

I apologize for the lack of accuracy. We have checked the paper.

Round 2
