Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In my opinion, the manuscript ID energies-1170305 is an interesting study. Corresponds to the journal Energies profile. The authors put a lot of effort and work into refining and improving the manuscript. I believe that it can be published as it is. It seems to me that the authors should improve the quality and legibility of the drawings, but this can be done at the stage of editing the text before the press.

Reviewer 2 Report

In this paper a bioprocess is developed using BSG as a substrate for the production of cellulases and xylanases for saccharification of waste and bioenergy production.

The content of the abstract is consistent with the text of the paper.

The article is well structured. The introduction could be completed with the use of BSG for energy purposes with, for example, the reference:

Arranz, J.I.; Sepúlveda, F.J.; Montero, I.; Romero, P.; Miranda, M.T. Feasibility Analysis of Brewers' Spent Grain for Energy Use: Waste and Experimental Pellets. Appl. Sci. 2021, 11, 2740. https://doi.org/10.3390/app11062740

Materials and methods is complete.

All figures in the paper should be revised. They have low resolution and are not in a homogeneous format. I would also recommend that they have a more scientific appearance.

The format of the units should be standardised. Sometimes "U/g" is given and sometimes "U g-1".

The results seem well structured and the conclusions are those that can be derived from the results obtained.

For all these reasons, I consider that the article can be published in the journal, with the aforementioned minor requirements.

Author Response

The suggested reference was added.

All figures in the paper were revised, increasing resolution and putting them in a homogeneous format.

The format of the units was standardised.

Reviewer 3 Report

In my opinion, the title of the work does not fully correspond to the content contained therein. The whole work, otherwise interesting, concerns the screening of microorganisms and the characteristics of enzymes produced with their use, and brewer’s spent grain  is only one of the media used in the process. Therefore, the title of the work should emphasize the production of enzymes and not necessarily the substrate used.

Author Response

The title was changed accordingly to this reviewer comment
