Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper tackles the flexible job-shop scheduling problem with heat treatment process. It has considerable merit. However, it has some serious flaws in the results section (section 5). It does not show any aspects of multi-objective optimization, even though the mathematical model in this paper is a multi-objective optimization model. For multi-objective optimization algorithms, Pareto Fronts must be shown. Without Pareto Fronts, the multi-objective optimization methodology cannot be justified. However, this paper has not shown any major multi-objective optimization aspects in the results section. Some other shortcomings of this paper are as follows:

  • The introduction/background is too short.
  • The contributions of this paper, in comparison with the existing literature, should be clearly stated.
  • The algorithm description should be improved.
  • Most of the figures in the manuscript have a very poor quality. Some of the figures' texts are not readable at all.
  • Some of the paragraphs are too long. The long paragraphs should be broken down into multiple paragraphs.
  • The quality of English is not good. There are many grammatical errors. Some sentences do not have clear meanings due to grammatical errors.

How nice and interesting applications, some point could be improved, they must be improved:

State of the art is poor, you missed people working with no complete information and making better models, as it was shown and defined in Smart optimization of a friction-drilling process based on boosting ensembles, Journal of manufacturing systems 48, 108-121..the application is different but boosting ensembles is a powerful tool today, check and include it.

Regarding technology issues, you must not forget that heat treatment are main causes for piece distoritions, as it was shoed by Machining stresses and initial geometry on bulk residual stresses characterization by on-machine layer removal, Materials 13 (6), 1445 Several piece can be rejected by the main aspect related with that. Even the authors said that a full data model can help.

The rest of the paper is quite good. Give conclusions as point, one per each paper highlight.

Do not waste the opportunity to improve, please.

This study flexible job-shop scheduling problem with the heat treatment process, and given a mathematical model of the heat treatment process and machining process is established. The study seems interesting and valuable. My comments are below for enhancement :

  1. All figures are very poor and distorted. Use EPS figures if possible to understand and reading the diagram.
  2. Please add up more latest (2020-2021) literature if possible.
  3. Also, insert section motivation and contribution with a significant research diagram to clear the paper's main aim.
  4. Write comprehensive discussions in line with your results and existing results.

The conclusion can be written with more magical words and needs to be enhanced.

  1. Minor typoes and writing bugs can be solved.

Pareto Fronts could have been shown for all cases. Other than that, I have no more comments.

Is there only a conclusion? Why did you not express them as points to determine highlights.

Did your read previous comments?  the machining equipment  has  almost  been  running  during  the  work,  the  heat  treatment  equipment  has  rarely  waited  during  the  processing,  and  heat  treatment batches are connected with each other at an almost zero gap. That is an engineering conclusion.

Convergence Diagram of Two Algorithms: how did you measured the computational effort.

Ai models and for instance, boosting ensembles are very fresh in some problems of data.

Are you uploading the code f your algorithm?

  1. Instance Verification & Algorithm Comparison: this is OK, nice section.

Merege section 1 and 2.

Please rread all the comments and provide a new verion.

Figure 1 is very illegal and can be improved more if you want and Please put section motivation and contribution with a significant research diagram to clear the paper's main aim. I did not see it in your revised paper. Better if you can insert or write just after literature work.
