Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Thanks for editing your manuscript and responding to my questions and suggestions. I find this paper interesting. It brings new insights to our understanding of leaf shape development and evolution. It seems there are still some minor language edits to be done but in general, I recommend it for publication in Forests.

Reviewer 2 Report

After reviewing the resubmitted manuscript and the authors' responses to my comments, the following should be noted: (i) the authors satisfactorily responded to all the questions and comments I have raised; (ii) the comments and questions posed by me has been clarified in manuscript.

Line 160 - it is more professional to use the term “the 35S CaMV promoter instead of “the CaMV 35S promoter”, as well as “XbaI and BamHI sites” instead of “Xba- I and Bam-HI”.

I believe these shortcomings will be resolved during the editing of the manuscript.
