Identification and Analysis of the EIN3/EIL Gene Family in Populus × xiaohei T. S. Hwang et Liang: Expression Profiling during Stress
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
In the manuscript titled “Identification and Analysis of the EIN3/EIL Gene Family in Populus × xiaohei T. S. Hwang et Liang: Expression Profiling During Stress” authors have performed a comprehensive analysis of EIN3/EIL gene family in Populus × xiaohei T. S. Hwang et Liang. The study is very interesting and provides the diverse knowledge of EIN3/EIL gene family. The study includes the cloning of eight genes, bioinformatic analyses and a detailed expression profiling under various tissues and abiotic stress condition. The results strongly supported the participation of these genes in plant development, salt, drought, heavy metal and hormonal stress resistance. Moreover, the manuscript is very well written and includes all the important details. However, I am mentioning few things which needs to be revised .
- The authors should italicize the gene names throughout the manuscript.
- Sentence “Monoclones positive……….” is ambiguous, rewrite it.
- The authors should italicize the plant names throughout the manuscript.

Dear editore
Many thanks for giving me the chance to review the paper titled “Identification and Analysis of the EIN3/EIL Gene Family in Populus × xiaohei T. S. Hwang et Liang: Expression Profiling During Stress” by Liu et al. In the mentioned paper, authors cloned eight ethylene-insensitive 3-like (EIN3/EIL) (EIN3/EIL) genes of Populus × xiaohei, by then using bioinformatics analysis the conserved domain of the genes have been identified. Additionally, the authors used the multi-species phylogenetic analysis to demonstrate the structural characterises of the family EIN3/EIL protein. Furthermore, the result of this study showed the efficient function of PsnEIN/EIL gene under abiotic stresses (drought, alkaline conditions, heavy metals, or salts) and abscisic acid (ABA)
After careful consideration of this paper, I suggest minor corrections on the bellowed matters:
The language of this draft should be improved.
Some references don’t meet the journal format (e.g. reference 61)
Gene’s name should be italic.
Add more up-to-date references (2011, 2022).
The binary name of plants should be italic (e.g. A. thaliana)
