Author Response

We have provided a stronger background in the Introduction, focused the research questions and improved the hypotheses' presentation.

We improved the Abstract and the Materials and Methods.

We also added numerical results in the revised Results.

As suggested we have improved the Discussion focusing on  the understanding of drought-growth relationships, especially in the context of forecasted aridification. We also mentioned some limitations of the study.

Specific suggestions

Line number 64: ‘Although multiple efforts have been developed to estimate changes in C uptake, multispecies studies are limited’ Please provide the supporting references, there are several studies has been done.

> We provided some references.

Line numbers 76-82:  Rephrase the sentences

> We rephrased them.

Line numbers 112:  how many samples were collected for statistical analyses?

>The number of analyzes samples is indicated in Table 1. We took two cores per tree.

Line numbers 123:  Delete ‘see’ word

> Done.

Line numbers 180-185: add the numerical values in the result section and similar to sub-section.

> Done.

Reviewer 2 Report

Some minor problems need to be changed as follows:

(1) P4, line 124-126, "Pearson correlation coefficients", pearson correlation analysis of the premise condition is that the data must meet the normal distribution, please add that the data meet the normal distribution test.

 (2) P8-10, "Discussion" this paper is to study the relationship between the rates of stemwood carbon accumulation and the hydroclimate variability in Mexican conifers. However, some of the contents discussed are not closely related to the content studied in this paper, so it is proposed to simplify the discussion.

Some sentences should be improved.

> Thanks. We added this information.

> We fully revised and shortened the Discussion.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

Some sentences should be improved.

> We checked and improved some sentences as requested.
