Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Abstract: I would recommend the authors add some industrial scales of the obtained results.

Keywords: It would be better if the keywords did not overlap with the title.

Introduction:

It is necessary to provide a clear definition of the problem that the research aims to address and state the research question with clarity. Moreover, it is important to highlight how the research builds upon existing knowledge and the trajectory of research in the field, which helps readers comprehend the contribution of the work

Material and Methods

Test parameters must be specified (loading rate).

The loading direction is not clear.

The proper method of calculating mechanical properties must be explained.

Results

Authors should discuss the results and interpret them in relation to previous studies and the working hypotheses. The implications of the findings should be discussed within the broadest possible context

 Conclusion

The conclusion should be improved by emphasizing practical implications and future research directions. Practical Implications

Title: The influence of treatment methods on bending mechanical properties of bamboo strips

Abstract: I would recommend the authors add some industrial scales of the obtained results.

Reply: Thanks for your suggestion. Abstract was added with  industrial scale content in line 8 to 10.

Introduction: It is necessary to provide a clear definition of the problem that the research aims to address and state the research question with clarity. Moreover, it is important to highlight how the research builds upon existing knowledge and the trajectory of research in the field, which helps readers comprehend the contribution of the work

Reply: Thanks for your suggestion. A clear description of the definition and research questions has been revised in lines 52 to 66. After continuing and comparing previous published studies, the necessity and significance of this study were further emphasized.

Materials and Methods:

Test parameters must be specified (loading rate).

The loading direction is not clear.

The proper method of calculating mechanical properties must be explained.

Reply: Thanks for your suggestion.

In 2.1, lines 71~79, the test parameters, loading rate, and loading direction have been added, and related pictures have been added.

In 2.3, lines 94~102, the calculation method of specific mechanical properties and pictures of related calculations have been added.

Results: Authors should discuss the results and interpret them in relation to previous studies and the working hypotheses. The implications of the findings should be discussed within the broadest possible context

Reply: Thanks for your suggestion. In 3.1, an extensive examination of this work was conducted, specifically in lines 136 to 144 and 182 to 188. The analysis was framed within a comprehensive context, drawing upon a broad background and building upon prior research endeavors.

Conclusion: The conclusion should be improved by emphasizing practical implications and future research directions. Practical Implications

Reply: Thanks for your suggestion. In lines 374~384, the conclusion has been improved by emphasizing practical significance and future research directions.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The authors focus on an interesting and at the same time locally current problematics, namely different methods of treating bamboo in order to improve its bending abilities. The goal is primarily to improve the bending parameters, but while maintaining the required quality of the treated material from the point of view of its structure or the quality of the surface appearance. The article is a suitable contribution to the selected special issue.

To the article I have only a few minor comments and then rather personal considerations and observations:

- a more detailed description of the cut and the method of sample selection for test series within individual experiments (to add); parallelism or random sampling, 5 samples for each series of experiments?

- missing information on the method of data evaluation, statistical significance of differences, analysis of sample sufficiency, etc.

- this is a Chinese standard for determining the properties of bamboo, which is not known in Europe, so it would be appropriate to provide at least a link to the source(s) where the methodology is more described; in any case, to state the norm in the references!

- the question is whether, on the basis of information from the literature and own personal experience, it was not possible to exclude some times of the selected modifications,

- try to consider the justification of using the word "toughening" in the conclusions,

- in Figures 1, 2 and 3, it is not necessary to state Fmax when MOR is available, and it would be more practical to show the maximum deflection (I recommend to rework).

What I consider positive is the use of FTIR and XRD analyses. The font quality of most graphic outputs I consider to be negative.

Title: The influence of treatment methods on bending mechanical properties of bamboo strips

To the article I have only a few minor comments and then rather personal considerations and observations:

- a more detailed description of the cut and the method of sample selection for test series within individual experiments (to add); parallelism or random sampling, 5 samples for each series of experiments?

Reply: Thanks for your suggestion. Detailed supplementary instructions for sample cutting, testing methods, sampling and other issues have been added in 2. Materials and Methods, lines 71~100. And the picture description in Figure 1 has been adjusted for the cutting and testing of samples.

- missing information on the method of data evaluation, statistical significance of differences, analysis of sample sufficiency, etc.

Reply: Thanks for your suggestion. Detailed supplementary explanations, regarding issues such as data evaluation methods, statistical significance of differences were added in 2.3 Testing Methods, lines 94~100, And picture description, Figure 2 was added for data calculation and statistics. The sufficient number of samples were reflected in the standard deviation (error bars) in Figures 3 to 5.

- this is a Chinese standard for determining the properties of bamboo, which is not known in Europe, so it would be appropriate to provide at least a link to the source(s) where the methodology is more described; in any case, to state the norm in the references!

Reply: Thanks for your suggestion. The full name of the Chinese standard was given in reference. The related calculation methods was also further explaned in line 75 and line 97.

- the question is whether, on the basis of information from the literature and own personal experience, it was not possible to exclude some times of the selected modifications,

Reply: Thanks for your suggestion. This study was set based on the literatures, the comparison and discussion of this manuscript  and other studies were added lines 136~144 and 182~188 to excluede and optimize this experiment.

- try to consider the justification of using the word "toughening" in the conclusions,

Reply: Thanks for your suggestion. Toughening has been modified to toughness.

- in Figures 1, 2 and 3, it is not necessary to state Fmax when MOR is available, and it would be more practical to show the maximum deflection (I recommend to rework).

Reply: Thanks for your suggestion. Fmax has been removed. The maximum deflection was not used as both the plastic and elastic placement has been given in Figure 3b, 3c, 4b, 4c, 5b, 5c.

What I consider positive is the use of FTIR and XRD analyses. The font quality of most graphic outputs I consider to be negative.

Reply: Thanks for your suggestion. All related pictures have been adjusted and modified. The pictures with lower quality has also been further adjusted.
