Review of the Effects of Antiviral Therapy on Hepatitis B/C-Related Mortality and the Regression of Fibrosis

Dr. Syed Abdul Basit serves as an associate program director of the gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship program at the Sunrise GME consortium. His medical training was completed at Khyber Medical College, Peshawar, Pakistan. After graduating from medical school and completing his residency, he started his career as a pediatrician in Pakistan. He worked for a nonprofit organization called SOS (SOS Children’s villages) and joined their hospital and outpatient centers. The hospital and clinics exclusively provided services to under-served Afghan immigrant children. He ultimately became the leader of the regional hospital and the outpatient centers for this organization. After immigrating to America, he shifted his focus to adult medicine. He did his 3-year internal medicine residency at the University of Nevada and finished his internal medicine residency in 2014. He was then offered a place as an inaugural gastroenterology fellow for the University of Nevada program. He finished 3 years of gastroenterology and hepatology training at the same University. He has an interest and expertise in an array of gastrointestinal and hepatology disorders. He provides subspecialty services in the diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small and large bowel, and liver. He has a special interest in upper and lower gastrointestinal motility and functional disorders. His expertise also includes advanced therapeutic interventions like ERCP and endoscopic mucosal resection.

Dr. David Shih is an internationally renowned expert on inflammatory disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and one of the most widely published physicians in Nevada. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both gastroenterology and internal medicine. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he graduated as valedictorian. This was followed by dual M.D./Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University and Rockefeller University. He went on to complete his internal medicine residency at Stanford University. He subsequently did his gastroenterology fellowship at UCLA, and his inflammatory bowel disease advanced training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, MENSA International, and the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Roll. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Federation for Medical Research. He has an interest in conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus, stomach cancer screening, peptic ulcer disease, irritable bowel syndrome, abdominal pain, colon cancer screening, celiac disease, and obesity management.

Dr. John K Ryan is a board-certified gastroenterologist, specializing in the treatment of digestive disorders. He has a unique background that has allowed him to develop a broad array of interests in general gastroenterology, including therapeutic endoscopy. He obtained a degree in biology at Stanford University, followed by a medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Following his internal medicine residency, he completed his gastroenterology training at the University of North Carolina. He served as a faculty member at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and subsequently at the University of Nevada. In the latter role, he was instrumental in starting the gastroenterology training program there. He continues to take an active role in the education of medical students and residents. He also continues to publish research. He has particular interests in maximizing the safety of colon cancer screening and the treatment of hemorrhoids. In 2015, he and his partners established CDIN. At CDIN, he is involved in the care of patients with a variety of gastrointestinal issues, and he performs the full array of endoscopic procedures. He focuses on his passion, which is general gastroenterology. He is currently licensed to practice in Nevada, California, and Arizona, and holds staff appointments at hospitals in multiple states. He maintains an ABIM certification in gastroenterology and is an associate professor of medicine at Roseman University.
