Inhibitory Effect of CUSTOS, a Formulated Allium-Based Extract, on the Growth of Some Selected Plant Pathogens
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
This report of use of CUSTOS with carrot and strawberry--as a broad spectrum preventative/curative plant-derived treatment to control pathogens--is timely, appropriate, well-researched and well-documented. I have attached a "marked-up" version of the manuscript with suggestions for clarifying your paper.

The current manuscript "Inhibitory effect of CUSTOS, a formulated allium-based extract, on the growth of some selected plant pathogens". The manuscript is good but some comments and modification have to address before publication.
- The abstract part needs to rewrite in a way to define the exact novelty and originality of your work.
- All abbreviations used should be mentioned in the place of their first mention followed by an abbreviation and then only the abbreviation is written.
- Line 101 "Malt Extract Peptone Agar" replace to malt extract peptone agar.
- Line 102 "Nutrient Agar" replace to nutrient agar
- Line 101 "Colletotrichum gloeosporioides" replace to Colletotrichum gloeosporioides.
- Line 102 "Phytophthora cactorum" replace to Phytophthora cactorum
- Scientific name for organisms should be one form.
- In materials and methods. The authors should indicate the location of the field experiment of the plant, indicating the season and year in which it was studied.
- The space required between the number and unit, lines 99, 103, 110, 111, etc.
- Line 105 "Petri" replace to petri
- Line 109 "LB"??
- Line 116 "a two-week-old"??
- Line 118 "Potato Extract" replace to potato extract
- There is an overlap in the axes in the Figure 3 and where are the petri plates for bacteria like the previous Figure 2.
- The Authors need to improve the resolution of Figure 5.
- Replace 37°C to 37 °C line 160, 65°C to 65 °C line 161, etc.
- Line 167 "200 ng/µL…..) The sentence does not start with a number.
- Conclusion??
- The whole manuscript must be checked to avoid the presentation of same information several times.
- The text must be checked carefully in order to correct the editing errors.

I highly doubt that the authors checked the paper before submission.
Authors affiliation should be referred to as a superscripted number next to the author's name
Many structural problems that prevent proper evaluation of the paper
Line 12 Line break
Inconsistent font and font color and the template structure is not respected
The abstract is aligned to the left
The reference style is not the same as the journal guideline.
The page's footer indicates that the template is old ‪Plants 2021, 10, x FOR PEER REVIEW. We are almost in March 2022..
Line 48 Different font and size
The subheads are not clear no number of space
Line 108 no subhead for this section
Line 114 same Font and style as the text, hard to differentiate
Different parts are aligned to the left
Figures are with presented with low resolution.
Other concerns.
The website that the authors claimed to contain info about their product “http://d2bioinc.com/” is about another product named “CUSTOS”.
The authors didn’t explain the real content of their products nor a phytochemical analysis of it.
‪Allium is well known and well studied for its antibacterial, antiviral, and also effectiveness again plant pathogens. No novelty was discussed.
What is the meaning of VEG’LYS? Is it an abbreviation of extract name or a totally commercial product?

Authors´ findings are important in the perspective of using VEG´LYS in IPM as a valid alternative of synthetic products. The main argument is valid but lacks originality as Allium extract are widely recognized for their antimicrobial activity. Even so, the work is sound for the most part. In view of major improvements made, I consider the manuscript acceptable for publication.
