Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This article is an interesting cross-sectional study to analyze the quality of work life among nurses in different regions of Saudi Arabia. The study provides insight into the relationship of QWL with selected socio-demographic variables. However, I had some comments for the present manuscript as below.

C1: The authors may describe more on why this issue is important. What can health professionals benefit from knowing the quality of nursing work life (QNWL) among nurses?

C2: The data source was an online questionnaire including nurses working in different regions of Saudi Arabia. There were 860 nurses who participated in the study, which may lack generalizability. Maybe some nurses were too busy to complete the online questionnaire, and this may lead to selection bias. The authors may describe more on why these nurses were representative.

C3: The authors may describe more on the reliability and the validity of the data. Table 2 showed the Quality of Work Life among Nurses Based on Dimensions. QNWL score categories were divided into low QNWL, moderate QNWL, and high QNWL. The authors may describe more on how the threshold of these categories was determined. Are there similar studies using the same way of classification? Also, on the “Score for work world”, “5-30 low QNWL” may be wrong.

C4: There have been many studies in the past on the quality of work life. The authors should describe more similar study results and their differences with other studies.

C5: Because readers from other countries may not be familiar with the background of Saudi Arabia’s health system. The authors may describe more on the feature of Saudi Arabia’s health system. Information on the number of licensed nurse practitioners, the ratio of nurses in clinics and hospitals, and the approximate ratio of nurses to patients in hospitals, should be described more.

Reviewer 2 Report

The subject of this manuscript is interesting and important due to the quality of life in the context of the professional work of a nurse.

The study was conducted on a large number of nurses (n=860), using a standardized research tool (Brooks' Quality of Nursing Work Life Survey). Although the authors took into account many socio-demographic variables in their research, it seems that a valuable research value would be to take into account other factors related to job satisfaction, such as the nurse's mental functioning, ability to cope with difficult situations , etc.

Referring to the presented manuscript, the reviewer would like to know what research hypotheses have been put forward in this research? They should be formulated and added to the manuscript.

Besides, it would be interesting in the summary to specify what are the practical implications of the obtained research. In what areas is there a need for intervention in order to improve the quality of professional work of a nurse?
