Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The technical language of the manuscript is acceptable with minor grammatical corrections needed. It is the duty of the authors to thoroughly read through the manuscript before submission, for example lines 445-446 the authors repeated "nitrogen removal". Also check line 443, "across" were the authors aiming to write "cross"?

Line 486, sentences should always begin with a capital letter.

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript entitled: Responses of anammox granular sludge to long-term rare earth element feeding: lanthanum as a case presented studies on the impact of lanthanum on anammox granular sludge, importantly, for a long period of exposure, so that the results obtained can be compared to the actual state of the environment. The methods are presented well and a good characterization is done.
In general, the paper is a good work and fills within the aims and scope of the journal. The authors explain how the lanthanum can how to penetrate the cells and how to disrupt their functioning. I really recommend this article to publication. Below, there are a few minor suggestions:

  1. In the whole text, please use the Fig. or Figure form.
  2. The abbreviation Total nitrogen (TN) is explained at the end of the article, please give an explanation at the first mention of TN. Alternatively, it would be worthwhile to add a list of all the abbreviations at the beginning of the article, this should simplify reading the article.
  3. In conclusions the phrase should start with a capital letter.
