Reviewer 2 Report

Seismic performance of buildings and plants cannot be fully evaluated without taking into the consideration the seismic behavior of its vital nonstructural components. This is especially important in the field of Performance Based Seismic Design.

So, that is the main strength of this quite well written paper. The rather complex numerical model is calibrated according to the results of shaking table test although I would’ve liked to see more details about the experiment. Also, I did not understand if only dynamic properties of the cabinet were determined experimentally or some time history tests were made also.

However, I find the paper interesting, well written and in my opinion worth for publishing.

I have only couple of comments/questions:

  1. Please consider better quality/resolution of figures (especially figure 1 and figure 11) where even with magnifying glass one could not identify the features described in the surrounding text;
  2. What are (if there is any) the restrictions of only linear elastic analysis you have performed;
  3. It would be nice to know what are your recommendations regarding the current design practice, and finally,
  4. In your opinion, is there a chance that this quite complex numerical model could be employed for improving some simpler numerical models more appropriate for everyday practice.
