Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors of the paper How does improve farmers' attitudes toward ecosystem services to support sustainable development of agriculture? Based on environmental Kuznets curve theory, presents relevant topic agroecosystems are relevant both from the point of view of farmers to them, as well as how agroecosystems influence the annual income of the farm, essential aspects for the sustainable development of farms globally.

Concepts, citations, and bibliographic sources are mentioned appropriately in the paper, such as [26, 27] where the authors justify that “environmental farmers' awareness (attitudes) are strongly influenced by economic and demographic characteristics” and the paper [21] by which the authors highlight negative externality (pollution) at farm level.

The research methodology is adequate, the authors use tools, studies, methods, and models to justify the research results. For example, the method of the interview "face to face to collect data and the Kuznets environmental curve (EKC) hypothesis to provide an analytical framework". Moreover, based on the interview, "the perceptions of farmers' attitudes towards ecosystems are extremely complex, caused by the characteristics of farmers". Studies are appropriately selected by the authors to argue the results of the research (e.g. Chen et al., 2017 [10]).

The research results are presented by the authors of the research both descriptively and through tables (e.g. Summary statistics of local farmers' attitudes towards ecosystem services -the importance of ecosystem services for local farmers) and graphically (e.g. Fig. 3. Attitudes of farmers towards of ecosystem services according to the annual income of the household 258, the level of education, the area of cultivated land household and age), which justifies the dedicated involvement of the authors on the research topic. However, we suggest an additional addition to the authors by mentioning in a separate paragraph the personal scientific contributions to the literature as a result of the results obtained.

The conclusions are appropriately mentioned by the authors of the research, respectively by this paper the authors “highlight the attitudes of farmers regarding SE and the trajectories of farmers' attitude towards SE change caused by annual household income and social demographic characteristics that are useful in providing references for environmental agricultural ”, these perceptions being defined to be particularly complex. Furthermore, we suggest to the authors of the research the supplementation with personal scientific contributions as mentioned above in the results, as well as with the limitations of the research (if any) and the mention of future research, the paper being useful both in the context of the European Green Pact and in the Green Pact. Global.

We congratulate the research team on the research topic, and after reviewing the paper with the complementary elements mentioned above, we propose acceptance of the paper.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear Authors,

Thank you very much for your contribution.

Just minor questions:

  • Line 46:  Please review the term "unintentionally", because society is aware of the environmental damage caused by food consumption.
  • Line 77:  Please specify the meaning of "water regulation" linked to  "limiting groundwater recharge".
  • Line 99: Include (EKC) after "environmental Kuznets curve".
  • Line 130: please indicate in "km2" not in "hm2".
  • Figure 2: please check if the scale included in the figure is correct.
  • Lines 270-271: For readers to correctly understand what the gender differences in the perception of "ES" are due to, the comment should be broadened a little, explaining not only if there are differences in direct work or the level of formal education, but in age, in income level, in land area worked, etc. of the interviewees, depending on whether they are men or women.

Very kind regards,

The Reviewwer
