The manuscript developed two models: SWAN and CFD model, on simulating the ocean wave. However, it did not introduce well on its core claims and what the purpose of comparison between the two models. Also, the development of the two models are not well described without validation results. The manuscript need to be significantly improved.

  2. What is the data look like? Could the author introduce more on the data format and how the data is going to be used in section 2.2 and 2.3?

The manuscript developed two models: SWAN and CFD model, on simulating the ocean wave. However, it did not introduce well on its core claims and what the purpose of comparison between the two models. Also, the development of the two models are not well described without validation results. The manuscript need to be significantly improved.

 

The authors would like to thank the reviewer #1 for the fruitful comments. We have added and improved some details to make our paper better follow by the comments from the reviewer. We agree with the reviewer about the weak point on validation results. Then, this part has been added.

 

  1. 1. Line 136, which country’s NOAA?

Response: The country of NOAA has been added in line138.

 

  1. 2. What is the data look like? Could the author introduce more on the data format and how the data is going to be used in section 2.2 and 2.3

Response: More details have been added in sections 2.2 and 2.3.

 

  1. 3. Why the wave data is not introduced in section2?

Response: A part of wave data has been moved from section 3.2 to section 2.4 as the reviewer suggested.

 

  1. 4. How are both SWAN and CFD model validated?

Response: Results of validation has been added. It is a comparison of significant wave height with Jason-2 satellite in October, November, and December. A CFD model was validated by comparison to a linear wave theory.

In this manuscript, authors have investigated theoretical coastal energy in the coastal zone of Thailand using a two-dimensional CFD model. They have embedded the SWAN model within the computational fluid dynamics model to simulate the wave. The manuscript presents an interesting study and can be accepted for publication after addressing the following comments.

  1. Well-known information should not be overused in the abstract, even as background information. The abstract should be briefly written to describe the purpose of the research, the principal results, and major conclusions. Please revise.
  2. The novelty of this work needs further justification; the methodology and results need further explanation and discussions; how this work can be applied and utilized by other research in the related research area is not clear.
  3. Please check heading 3 for a typo.
  4. Grid sizes and information related to grid optimization study is missing in the manuscript.
  5. Same heading title for sections 4.1 and 4.2? Please check.
  6. Why the VOF model has opted, justify your selection for the model.
  7. Do equations 11 and 12 represent the average values of the thermos physical properties?

Response: The authors agree with the reviewer on the application and utilization for others. Then, a validation has been added. The preparation and data format has been also added to let the others understand the method.

Response: Information has been added in Line 235.

Response: A heading title for section 4.2 has been changed to linear wave theory.

Response: A revise has been done and is moved to section 4.1.

Response: Instead of mentioning an average values for density and viscosity which are not really the physical properties, these two equations have been eliminated.

The paper studies the potential of waves in the Andaman Sea. To calculate the significant wave heights was used Simulating WAves Nearshore (SWAN) model and the results were compared with the measurement data of the Jason-2 satellite. Also in the paper was presented a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) study. 

In the context in which humanity needs to develop more and more renewable energy sources, the paper may be of interest to readers. In order to improve the scientific value of the paper, I will ask the authors to make all the changes suggested in the attached file
