Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The theme of the article is highly relevant, and the authors propose to present useful research regarding the development of conceptual frameworks on how to teach STEM concepts. The proposed article presents an appropriate theoretical review of the state of the art.

Although the process of construction of the used instrument is clear, some aspects are not. For instance, the authors did not mention if the first version of the survey emerged from the theoretical background or if it is based in other survey available in the literature. Although the authors described well enough all process of systematic review, some aspects are unnecessary, for instance there is no point in sharing weblinks if the reader is not allowed to access it (page 4).

The results and discussion presented reinforces the relevance of the theme, however it would make the results clearer if the authors synthesized it (even in the abstract). Some aspects related to sustainability education should be clarified, not just in the results section but also in the introduction. For example, sustainability education is never mentioned in the abstract, although they appear in the title of the article. In the conclusions, the authors pointed out some interesting paths for future research.

The submission presents some problems with the English translation, that affect the full understanding of this research work. Therefore, it is advisable to carry out a linguistic revision of the text.

Author Response

Response to Reviewer 1 Comments

Point 1: The theme of the article is highly relevant, and the authors propose to present useful research regarding the development of conceptual frameworks on how to teach STEM concepts. The proposed article presents an appropriate theoretical review of the state of the art.

Response 1: Thank you very much, yes we did it

Point 2: Although the process of construction of the used instrument is clear, some aspects are not.

Response 2: We have added the theoretical background in developing instrument in the manuscript.

“this study used a survey using an instrument which be developed using the basic competence in year 2013 by [3], nature of science by [22], [23], and [24], nature of technology by [22], [25], and [26], nature of engineering by [27], and nature of mathematics by [22] (in Appendix 1)”

We have added footnotes to inform that those links only can be accessed by log in to Web of Science Database through an account in Kasetsart University

Point 3: The results and discussion presented reinforces the relevance of the theme, however it would make the results clearer if the authors synthesized it (even in the abstract). Some aspects related to sustainability education should be clarified, not just in the results section but also in the introduction. For example, sustainability education is never mentioned in the abstract, although they appear in the title of the article. In the conclusions, the authors pointed out some interesting paths for future research.

Response 3: Thank you very much, yes we have described the results and discussion to reinforces the relevance of the theme. The results on Point A, B, and C were used to synthesize the point D and now we have added the synthesize process in the abstract below and the synthesize process also can be found in the methods section.

“To address the aims of this study we have determined first the STEM concepts on basic competencies of Bahasa Indonesian subject of grade 1-3 at elementary school level in the curriculum 2013, the recommended teaching and learning strategies in learning STEM concepts that integrated into Bahasa Indonesian subject of grades 1-3 at elementary school in the curriculum 2013, and the first proposed conceptual frameworks on how to teach STEM concepts in Bahasa Indonesian subject as an integrated learning in grade 1-3 at elementary school level in the curriculum 2013 based on systematic review”

In the first paragraph we have described the importance to address the sustainability education and in the abstract we have mentioned to contribute to sustainability education as the impact of this study.

Yes, we did it in the conclusions that we found some interesting paths for future research.

Point 4: The submission presents some problems with the English translation, that affect the full understanding of this research work. Therefore, it is advisable to carry out a linguistic revision of the text.

Response 4: Thank you very much, yes we have done to proofread the manuscript by a Professional Editing Services (please see the certificate of proofreading in the attachment)

Reviewer 2 Report

Suggestion:

I would like to read more about systematic review because there are few information  about specific framework on how to teach STEM concepts.
