This paper presents an experimental study of deformation around a roadway in inclined strata in deep coal mine. The research approach is acceptable and the results properly discussed. The topic is relevant to your journal. The paper could have even more interesting if a link between the results of this study and their implication for coal mine design, was sufficiently discussed and illustrated. My specific comments are as follows:

  1. I have found some typos, errors and inaccuracies. I have highlighted some of the them  in the annotated review. Please address them accordingly. Also, please have the whole manuscript thoroughly proofread.
  2. The introduction is not very attractive in this current version. You shouldn't put emphasis on "domestic research" as coal mine issues is not only limited to China. Since this journal has an international audience, it is better to use references that are available in English for the convenience of the reader. I have made some suggestions in the annotated review, please consider it.
  3. The UCS of the material used in the experiment is quite low in comparison with that of coal. Will this affect the validation of the results in a context of real coal mine? Kindly elaborate on that. This is very important.
  4. Please add some discussions on how to use the results of your experiments to design roadway in deep  coal mine.
  5. Additional comments are highlighted in the annotated review.
  6. No more comments. Thank you.

Reviewer 3 Report

Dear Professor I reviewed under study. Authors have studied deep mine roadway in the inclined strata as the research object, the "three directions and five planes" vertical main loading true triaxial similarity simulation experiment system was used to establish the similarity simulation model of the inclined strata and carry out the high-stress triaxial loading experiment.

I have some contributions,

  • Literature survey is containing only from China. Of course Chinese researchers and their studies are very valuable. But, authors should give concern journals and other researchers.
  • Models should be given more clear and detailed. I can not understand entirely. For example Fig 11 is not clear.
  • Figure 15 is not necessary I think. This figure can be removed.
  • This study can be enforced by numerical modelling 2D or 3D in ANYSS or FLAC or PHASE RocScience.
  • Conclusions should be given more clear. (1)  (2)   (3)  (4)  numbered should be removed in Abstract and Conclusion section.

Best regards,

The paper looks interesting; however, some corrections are needed:

  • The quality of the figures is poor, please improve its quality.
  • Introduction has to be improved, new literature should be added.
  • The novelty of this work needs to be elaborated more. Why this study is so important? How it differentiates from the current literature?
  • What are the mechanical properties of polypropylene fiber? Explain the effects of increasing or decreasing its amount? Why you only add 5 kg per cubic meter?
  • What is the reference of this procedure “The mold was removed 3 days after the completion of production, and the compressive strength of the test blocks was tested 10 days after drying”?
  • In figure 8, add the x-axis title and explain the reasons for selecting the increasing stress in each time step by 0.2 MPa?
  • “When the loading continues to 12.2MPa, the roadway suddenly fails” but the loading is continue until 14 MPa, could you explain that.
  • Enhance the quality of figure 9.

The authors have adequately addressed all my comments from the previous review. However, I have found that in your reference list, references #21-24 (Page 14) doesn't have the same format as other entries. Please try to be consistent and keep the same referencing format in your reference list.
