Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper is of the most importance in order to develop some curricula perspectives and classroom activities as a consequence, although it is not very original as a whole. Nevertheless, knowing students perspectives and conceptions is always a good starting point for action.

The article is also important, as it allows the development of activities that promote greater and better understanding of biodiversity and environmental health. Anthropocentric concepts can be discussed and the promotion of other ways of looking at nature must be promoted. The article thus starts from a good basis for curriculum creators and teachers to design these activities.
It is based on good theoretical foundations and the methodology is adequate, with a sample chosen and explained. The results are adequate for the study, with well presented statistical data.
Perhaps it would be interesting to know a little more about the difference between schools, since care was taken to select them according to their proximity or distance to two places of great biodiversity in São Paulo.

It would be important also to know the reasons why students interest more in some aspects than the others and the paper does not permit so. Are the themes included in school curricula? Have students contact with some normal medical practices in the region they live, for instance, contact with alternative medicine? Besides some discussion in results, we don't have information coming from the research.
