A Study on the Application of Code Theory in the Decorative Design of Taiwan Bamboo Tube Furniture
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The article investigates the symbolic mean of decoration and form of bamboo furniture using various codes taken from literature and established philosophers. It does this well. However, the penultimate sentence and claim in the conclusion is puzzling as I cannot see how the article does this (lines 441to443). Perhaps this can be rewritten.

Dear Authors,
I believe that it is a valuable manuscript combining many elements from the borderline of history, culture, aesthetics, design, furniture technology, ergonomy, and even the perception of reality and mentality.
Regardless of the above, several elements should be improved. I present my comments in a synthetic form.
The manuscript made a study of the functions of the codes, including emotional code and communicational code. In contrast, there are low-quality illustrations. They are not professional: poor lighting and incorrect positioning of objects (bad framing), too low resolution (blur), large distortions, accidental background. This remark applies to practically all figures included in the manuscript.
Moreover, it is not appropriate to repeat the same lustration (object) in several figures. The same empress chair is depicted in figures 5, 11, and 20.
It seems to me that the photo in figure 12 was rotated by 180 degrees (it is turned upside down).
The all figures need significant improvement in my opinion.
Other comments.
In the case of such a specific raw material, as woody bamboo steams, their form (tube) largely determines the design solutions and affects the design of furniture.
In my opinion, the introduction should be supplemented with a paragraph regarding the material, i.e. the presence of bamboo in Taiwan, the availability of this raw material, and a brief description of the characteristics of bamboo steam. This will also contribute to supplementing the literature (the number of articles cited is small and it is worth increasing).

I have no comments about the remaining elements of the manuscript. It is well written.
