Spatiotemporal Variations in the Intensity of Human Activity in Inner Mongolia and the Identification of Influencing Forces
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Thank you for giving me this opportunity to read the manuscript entitled "Spatiotemporal Variations in Human Activity Intensity of Inner Mongolia and an Identification of Influencing Forces". The topic of this manuscript is interesting and would be a good contribution to this field. I think it could be considered for publication in Sustainability once the following issues are addressed.
- Please replace the keywords that already appear in the manuscript’s title with close synonyms or other keywords, which will also facilitate your paper to be searched by potential readers.
- The resolution of quite some the Figures (e.g., Fig.1 and Fig.2) in the manuscript should be improved, as some texts are hard to be read clearly.
- The spatial weight matrix(s) used for the model Get-Ord Gi* should be specified.
- Lines 55-56: “…, and other methods to quantify human activity intensity.”: The corresponding references should be added here, for example, some geo-spatial big data-based ways were used by some papers like “How does urban expansion impact people’s exposure to green environments? A comparative study of 290 Chinese cities”.
- It is suggested to include the Limitations as a subsection in the Discussion section.
- Lines 157-158: “… overcome the limitations of traditional statistical methods in dealing with categorical variables [30,31]. ”: Some newly published papers which used Geographical Detector Models are suggested to be citied here, for example, the paper titled “Observed inequality in urban greenspace exposure in China”.
- Some grammatical errors still exist. Therefore, a critical review of the manuscript language will improve readability.

- Line 14, 19: “rela-tionship”, “in-creased”: correct it.
- Figure 1: The location of the study area in China is not clear. Instead of the global map, only the map of China is needed with the shapefile of the study area above it.
- Line 90: “Golballand30”: the correct is: GolbaLand30.
- Line 93: “Land Resources Satellite (Landsat)”: is not correct. Landsat not come from these words.
- Table 1: for the first and second classes something is wrong. Why is a natural forest named cultivated? Moreover, the source that you referenced is different than your Conversion Index number.
- Line 173: “and are the ....”: And what?
