Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

I feel the relation with 'sustainability' could be improved. The term is not mentioned once in the article.

Unconventional tourist mobility is a relevant theme for (over)tourism studies. The article is based on a literature review and a qualitative analysis. It is interesting for further research to prove the relationships mentioned with empirical data.

The research is very interesting and necessary. It is well stated and explained, however it is poorly supported.
It does not refer to other investigations in this casuistry or to other studies carried out or being carried out.
"There is a need in tourism studies to apply innovative research methods and to reconceptualize the meanings of tourism in different geographical and social contexts" but the innovative research methods you propose are surveys. I think it is necessary to review the article so that it is more explicit regarding its contribution.

Reviewer 3 Report

The article concerns a very current and interesting topic which is "Unconventional tourist mobility: A geography-oriented theoretical framework". The article fully fits into the thematic issues of both the journal and the special issue.

The article focuses on  unconventional tourism mobilities, including same-day visits, which are an important but often neglected part of the tourism system, constantly challenging both scholars and tourism industry stakeholders. The work is a very valuable study that relates directly to tourism in the post-pandemic period. The work fully fills the research gap regarding the research into hidden or invisible tourist mobility in difficult post-pandemic times.

In my opinion, the article is properly prepared for editing. I also have no comments on the linguistic issues.

On the merits, I have a few comments that will certainly improve the quality of the article:

  • In the introduction, please refer to the pandemic situation in the world, which the authors mention in the abstract. Please indicate how the pandemic influenced tourism and the daily travel of the society.
  • Please add a chapter that will indicate the methods of data analysis if it is to be a scientific article, if I do not propose to change the type of article into a review.
  • Regarding transport, please refer to the aspects of shared mobility. Shared mobility played a huge role in the pandemic periods. Starting from changing the attitude of users to it, to all kinds of improvements implemented by operators operating in various markets. Please see the references: Electric Shared Mobility Services during the Pandemic: Modeling Aspects of Transportation, The futures of mobility after COVID-19 - Deloitte, Business Innovations in the New Mobility Market during the COVID-19 with the Possibility of Open Business Model Innovation and Final Update of New Mobility Services and Business Models.
  • There is no chapter devoted to discussion where the authors refer to research carried out by other authors around the world. Please complete this.
  • In the summary, please add information whether the purpose of the article has been achieved. Please also add information about further research planned by the authors on this topic.

Good luck!

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

In this context of the conceptual paper, as an introductory piece for the edited special issue which will host nine papers on unconventional tourism, the paper is correct. It is ready to publish in present form.

Reviewer 3 Report
