Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This manuscript studies the temporal and spatial response characteristics of apparent resistivity (AR) and the time-varying evolution of acoustic emission (AE) of coal specimens under multi-step loading. Besides, the integrated AR and AE for damage monitoring and their varying correlation are discussed, which will provide some new insight for rock/coal failure process. Overview the research, this is a very interesting topic, and the manuscript presents well organized/written, and quality. The article has good scientific contributions for some disasters, such as rockburst, monitoring using the AE and AR method. Therefore, I suggest this manuscript accepting in present form, although there are some minor concerns which need to be addressed clearly.

(1) Please provide the mechanical properties, such as the elasticity modulus, uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), P-wave/S-wave velocity, Poisson’s ration, for the tested coal specimens.

(2) How many AE sensors used in the experiments? And please give a description about the AE sensor including the type, size, resonant frequency, and so on.

(3) The fracture-induced apparent resistivity (AR) signals in the laboratory seems to be weak usually. So, how do you guarantee the shielding effectiveness and enhanced the effective AE signals during the loading process of coal specimen?

(4) Please explain the specific measurement principle of resistivity method?

(5) Please pay attention to specification and layout of the figures and tables.

Reviewer 2 Report

An integrated monitoring procedure combining the apparent resistivity (AR) and acoustic emission (AE) for coal damage under multi-step loading was designed. The topic is relevant to this field and complements previous research with a better experiments and analysis. The conclusions are consistent with the arguments and results presented in the paper and give a good presentation of the topic. References are appropriate.

The paper is good and can be accepted without modification.

This paper integrates the DC resistivity method (resistivity method) and  AE technique to test the AR and AE signal response law during the coal mass multi-step loading process, focusing on the analysis of the spatial and temporal evolution characteristics of the AR of the coal mass, and revealing the change mechanism of the resistivity of  the coal mass from microscopic and macroscopic perspectives.

This research  can provide new ideas for monitoring and early-warning coal and rock dynamic disasters. does not contradict other studies. new is digital modeling

the article will be understandable to specialists, ordinary readers will find it difficult to understand the problem
