This study investigated several substrates (edible plant - corn, agricultural waste - slurry) the level of carbon dioxide reduction in the life cycle of products during biogas production in the context of the requirements of Directive 2018/2001. The topic seems to be interesting. However, there are still some problems with the manuscript, and a major revision is needed before it can be accepted. The specific comments could be seen as follow:

There are some formatting issues and typos in the manuscript. The entire manuscript should be carefully checked. Please, check lines 14, 46, 57, 59, 116, 231, 281

The logic of the Introduction should be improved to increase the coherency.

Lines 157 and 197, are you referring to a metric ton (tonne), which is different than ton?

There are several typos in Figure 1, please modify.

In Materials and Methods, the boundary of the LCA study is not clear.

 

There are several grammatic errors and typos in the entire manuscript, please proofread thoroughly.

The entire manuscript has been edited for typos and grammatical errors. In the text, the authors refer to the unit of metric tons.

The boundaries of the LCA model have been indicated in the figure and include CO2 emissions generated during substrate cultivation (agricultural work and fertilization), raw material transport, combustion in the fermentation chamber (emissions resulting from the feeding of pumps and mixers in the fermentation chamber and heating the fermentation chamber).

The article deals with important and current issues, but it needs to be redrafted to increase its international universality.

The use of the wording in the title "Directive 2018/2001" is vague for an international reader. I propose to remove this entry from the title.

In lines 132-135, the comparison of 1MWh emissions from fossil fuels to 1 m3 of biogas is incomparable. The emissions from fossil fuels and biogas for the production of 1 MWh of energy should be compared. For non-standardized biogas, please provide the emission values ​​in the range.

In lines 138-142, the purpose of the work, narrowed down to the 2018 Directive of the European Parliament and the EU Council from 2001, makes the work local rather than international.

In lines 219-220, M. Kwasnik, who is a Polish and not an international specialist, was mentioned. It is better to refer to literature rather than a person.

In line 222, 'polifoska 6' is a trade name used only in Poland. Define the composition and type of the product.

In line 236 use a term other than "TIR"

 

In line 246, I suggest citing the literature for "Biograce calculator"

The reference to the Polish directive has been removed from the title of the article as well as from its content - the article cites international literature to increase its scope and universality.

Lines 139-143 were completed and the emissions from fossil fuels and biogas to the production of 1 MWh of energy were compared, as recommended by the reviewer.

In lines 227-228, M. Kwaśnik, who is in fact a Polish specialist, is mentioned. Following the reviewer's recommendation, a reference was made to the literature on the subject.

Line 227 has been edited and the main ingredient of the "Polifoska" fertilizer popular in Poland is given

Row 242 was redrafted and replaced "TIR" with “lorry”.

According to the reviewer's comment, the literature was supplemented, in which the Biograce calculator tool was used for similar calculations.
