Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript explore the price fluctuation of grain in China, an issue of high importance, especially under the existing circumstances where food security issues are of high priority.

The content of the manuscript is very interesting and overall I believe that it should be published in the journal.

However, before publication, I would like to see some adjustments to the text and some additions.

More specifically, I would like an Annex where the methodologies would be more extensively described. Moreover, I did not understand how these models run: did you run a script in R, or otherwise what kind of software, did you utilise.

Finally, even though I understand that the final model has higher predictability, I see that even the LR model has R-squared value which is .93 (fair enough) and I also see that its main problems appear in the high price levels (in the upper right of Figure 10 for LR. So I would like to see in the text how the other most advanced models deal with these values and end up with lower divergence in the high price levels

Finally, some more minor issues are listed below:

- Rephrase title by erasing "Research": Of course it is a research article, but no need to be included as such in the title...

-line 22: change probable to possible

-Line 23-24: Last abstract sentence is not related to the previous sentence, please move it upper in the text, or rephrase in such a way to be relevant with the previous sentence.

-Figure 1: text is not visible, need to be fixed
