Reviewer 2 Report

This study investigates the stability of a rock slope with weak interlayer through both physical model test and numerical modelling. This reviewer has some comments. The general and detailed comments are as follows.

1. It seems that most of the results can be expected. Please highlight the novelty and uniqueness of this study.

2. The test is carried out in small scale, where is stress state is not correct when compared with field conditions in large scale. Please add discussion on this point.

3. In figure 4, the test values are much larger than the simulated values at high applied load. It is explained that the model test does not have a homogeneous soil layer during filling. Is this the only reason? Please also postulate other reasons.

4. Please provide some recommendations at the end regarding how to strengthen the rock slope with weak interlayer in field.

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors have answered all the queries.

Author Response

The authors  thank the reviewer for your time in effort in reviewing our manuscript.

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors have addressed my comments well. I have one more comment. "Wedge Failure" is observed in the test. Please explain and discuss the mechanisms behind. Also, are there any real case(s) in field, which shows "Wedge failure"? Please compare with the practical failure cases in literature.

Author Response

Thanks to the suggestions of experts. Response to Reviewer 2 Comments, Please see the attachment.
