Dear authors, you started a good job; however I have some recommendations for its improvement:

Please, complete the abstract in one sentence what follows from these findings, what is the novelty of the paper?

row 73 – 74: ”Meanwhile, studies related to urbanization and agricultural eco-efficiency and productivity have gradually emerged [3,4].”  Please state what is the benefit of these cited studies and what is your benefit compared to them.

row 74 – 83: These rows are not suitable in the introduction, the rows 74-79 should be removed in the chapter of methodology; rows 80 – 83 should be transformed as one of the to the partial objectives of the paper. Moreover, there is necessary to add the main objectives and partial objectives of the paper.

row 84  - 147: Theoretical analysis must be expanded and supplemented by other relevant studies. Research hypothesis are suitable to the methodology but they should be rewritten. It is illogical that population urbanization should have positive and negative impact on agro-ecological efficiency at the same time. If so, there are sure other factors affecting the efficiency like you demonstrate in the title of the paper: “A study of the factors influencing agro-ecological efficiency under the process of population urbanization in China.”

I recommend to call this chapter”literature overview” and to cite here relevant papers from China and abroad.  And the next chapter should be called Material and methods – here should be described the data – what are data about, which years, how were received, etc. and methods that were used to elaborate them to receive the objectives of the paper that should be mentioned in the introduction. Delete both hypothesis and stipulate the problem as partial objective.

row 181: “The paper analyses the relationship between agricultural eco-efficiency and the level of population urbanization by constructing a panel VAR model (PVAR).”  Why you analyses population urbanisation separately from other factors?

row 195: “To explore the factors influencing agro-ecological efficiency and the degree of influence, the article constructs a panel regression model.“ Why you explore the factors separately from population urbanisation? Which factors are there mentioned? It should be mentioned in the chapter data and methods. Moreover, why are these data analysed by other method than the population urbanisation? Why not by PVAR model?

row 197: What does it mean on [2,0]? Moreover, this type of brackets is used for citations.

Discussion of results should be before the conclusions. Discussion means that the results are discussed with the results of previous studies. In the discussion, there is no such mention.

Recommendations should be involved in the discussion or conclusions.

Conclusions: Please add to your conclusions answers to these questions:

·         Why is this study unique?

·         What are the shortcomings and uncertainties of this study? (mentioned in conclusions not in discussion)

·         What did we scientific/research community learn out of it?

·         Benefits for policymakers?

·         Benefits for stakeholders?

·         Future work?
