Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper titled “Spatial and temporal variability of precipitation complexity in Northeast Brazil” investigated the precipitation complexity by the Sample entropy method. I think the study is interesting and helpful for researchers in this area.

The paper is suggested to make following modifications:

(1) the result section is poor organized for understanding, and is suggested divided into several subsections by the length of study period.

(2) The conclusion section is also suggested to divided into paragraphs according to the length of study period.

(3) Line 400 to 406 are suggested to be put in the introduction section.

This paper is exciting and informative. I stand with minor corrections.

Does the author not analyze the accuracy of the analysis using accuracy metrics such as AIC, AICc, BIC, or goodness of fit?

BIC is an assessment foundation for models which use the most extreme probability strategy (See to: https://www.gjesm.net/article_44366_6773.html / https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0216129)

The paper is generally well written and structured. I liked both the idea and research plan of the study. The publication is recommended, provided minor updates are performed.

Why was the rainfall dataset only used until 2012? Besides methodological adoption, how can the results enhance the current understanding of recent (after 2012) climatic events?

In the study area, long forest and vegetation discussion can be reduced to focus on the core strength of the study.
