Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper presents a very detailed and nice work on the study of solidificaiton characteristics of Al-Si-Fe-V alloy and the evolution of mechanical properties with different cooling condition via directional solidification. I would say that it is very important to the alloy design as well as the scrap recycling process. Only some minor errors should be notices, such as the Figure 2 is missing from the text. And it is advised to check the grammar carefully.

Reviewer 2 Report

The present manuscript entitled “Microstructure and Tensile Strength of an Al-Si-Fe-V Alloy: Vanadium and Solidification Thermal Parameters as Recycling Strategies” authored by Cássio Silva et al reports an interesting approach. The authors have done good efforts to analyze the data, and I found that the discussion is good enough. The conclusions are scientifically strong. Still, I advise the authors to take the following points into account while revising their manuscript.

Comment 1: There are some typographical errors in the manuscript text, so the authors need to correct them in the revised manuscript. In the whole manuscript, the authors must be taken care of the superscripts and subscripts, and abbreviations.

Comment 2: Improve the English language of the manuscript.

Comment 3: The authors need to add and discuss some more recent literature in the introduction section to strengthen the background of their work. For e.g.

Sahoo, K. L., and B. N. Pathak. "Solidification behaviour, microstructure and mechanical properties of high Fe-containing Al–Si–V alloys." Journal of Materials Processing Technology 209, no. 2 (2009): 798-804.

Comment 4: The Figure 2 caption is mentioned in the manuscript but Figure 2 is missing in the manuscript. So add figure 2 to the revised manuscript.

Comment 5: The conclusion section is too lengthy, should be revised.

Comment 6: The homogeneity of the reference section needs to be maintained. In some references, journal names are written in full form and some in abbreviation form. So please check and revise accordingly to the journal's instructions.
