Round 1

I don't have any comments for authors in what concerns the contents.

Despite the novelty of the paper I don't find it suitable in a Sustainability Journal. The paper is more adequated to an Cultural Heritage Studies Journal since we cannot see the relationship with the Journal goals.

Author Response

Point 1: Despite the novelty of the paper I don't find it suitable in a Sustainability Journal. The paper is more adequated to an Cultural Heritage Studies Journal since we cannot see the relationship with the Journal goals.

Response 1: We find that this research is suitable for the scope of the Special Issue “Sacred Lanscapes and Astronomical Heritage”. However, we have modified the conclusions mildly to adress the role of cultural astronomy in the enhancement of heritage and its preservation: “The Way constitutes a unique and sacred shared route with a common heritage and style, but with different cultural assets and traditions depending on the territories and political entities involved. In fact, through this study, it has been possible to show the potential of the perspective of cultural astronomy in the enhancement of heritage in such an impressive cultural landscape as the Camino de Santiago. As already argued, the Jacobean route has developed today into a world reference when it refers to heritage preservation and the development and application of novel sustainable touristic practices. Our work adds new value to these aspects, including the skyscape as a new facet reinforcing the Outstanding Universal Value of the property as a World heritage site and hence adding to the well-known interest of the public in the sky above us.”

I suggest adding the word 'Introduction' in the title of the first chapter

(1. Introduction: The Road of the Stars)

Author Response

Point 1: I suggest adding the word 'Introduction' in the title of the first chapter

Response 1: We have added the word Introduction, so the first chapter now is “1. Introduction: The Road of the Stars”

Dear authors,

Congratulations for the work done. The research has an original theme that expands the knowledge of the Camino de Santiago. The research is well structured from a methodological point of view and analyzes done stand out for their quality as well as results and conclusions.

However, I would like to make some suggestions for improvement the paper that could be taken into account by the authors:

  • It would be interesting to indicate more clearly in the paper the research objectives as well as the research question.
  • The concept of archaeoastronomy should be expanded.
  • I miss a real critical review of the scientific literature that allows establishing the theoretical bases of the investigation.
  • Consideration should be given to the applicability of the results. How these advances in knowledge can improve the current situation of the Camino de Santiago.
  • Proposing possible lines of knowledge transfer to society could be mentioned also.

Congratulation fot the research again!!

The presented technical material had high, original scientific value. For those who explore the trail of St. James to Santiago de Compostela has one problem because of its uniqueness, especially since pilgrims and tours are not familiar with this type of and common studies. Taking up the issues of cultural astronomy should address the subject and fascinating. The entire publication was very well prepared and methodologically different. All the results of the results were carefully evened out and the results worked out. Figures and charts are clear and work. The phenomenon of cultural astronomy is becoming a new additional tourist attraction.
