Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Thank you for providing me with the opportunity to read “The Vs of Big Data and the Vs of Textile Industry”. I have the following comments:

  • Please make the title more elaborate and reflective of the paper content. Currently, it doesn’t provide an insight into the paper. A title should be a good indicator of the papers’ content. So please revise it.
  • How many case studies were used? Add the details (number) to the abstract.
  • Similarly, the key challenges also need to be mentioned in the abstract. Currently, it is too generic.
  • How can the results help the textile industry? Merely providing insights into sustainability and big data nexus can not help the textile industry. This can be said about any industry. The authors need to be specific about what is imorved in textile due to the exploration of such nexus. Overall, this is a weakness of the paper. The authors need to clearly highlight the link between sustainability, big data nexus and the textile industry.
  • The authors need to focus on the challenges of the textile industry in the introduction. These need to be established first before exploring their connections with other terms. This is missing from the paper in its current form. For example, the authors have started to talk about the challenges of the textile industry in 3rd last para of the introduction but never really discussed what those challenges are. They stressed that these are intense and severe but never mentioned what these challenges are and how and why these are intense. The underlying characteristics of the challenges and problems must be discussed to establish the context of the study. Due to this, the study becomes weak and more promise-based than addressing a real challenge. The authors have further pointed to literature where the challenges can be seen; however, they never discussed these and based their study on the assumptions that everyone knows about these challenges. Please ensure that the article is understandable for a diverse range of readers, especially those not from textile backgrounds.
  • The novelty of the study is missing and hasn’t been discussed in the paper. What innovations are you bringing? What is different in this study? This is again a serious shortcoming. The authors need to discuss relevant papers and then come up with the strategy through which they will address the issues in this study while highlighting their innovations.
  • My biggest concern is related to the Vs of big data considered in this study. Big data has evolved far beyond the 3 Vs. In fact, the 10 Vs are very common in modern studies. The authors must seriously elaborate on the 10 Vs. The 3 Vs are outdated and reflect a lack of a state-of-the-art literature review. The paper needs a substantial overhaul due to this. For instance, see the following paper:

Munawar, H. S., Ullah, F., Qayyum, S., & Shahzad, D. (2022). Big Data in Construction: Current Applications and Future Opportunities. Big Data and Cognitive Computing, 6(1), 18.

  • The study's objectives should be clarified and presented in numbers to be easily read by the reviewers and readers.
  • The credibility of non-academic origin platforms is challenging to assess. Therefore, the authors should provide some references to justify that the reviewed source is credible and follows the scientific approach to document the case studies. A URL to the source should also be added to the paper.
  • The paper is mostly big data-focused, and the discussions relevant to textile are superficial. The authors need to revise the paper, focus on textile, and review the challenges in line with big data Vs. However, currently, this is not the case, and the relevance to textile is very weak.
  • Please revise the results in line with the 10Vs of big data and add relevant results and discussions.
  • In the conclusion section, add the limitations of the study.

  1. The authors have to correlate the SDG with respect to the textile industry/ circular economy.
  2. The check for anti-plagiarism using Turnitin is within the limits of less than 10%
  3. The English used in the manuscript can be improved by checking for grammar and sentence construction.
  4. The author needs a deeper critical analysis of the literature comparing different sources and presenting the current stand.

Reviewer 3 Report

The article is based on current issues. However, it is marred by several general statements and unclear formulation of the aim of the paper, which makes it difficult to assess the results, which are descriptive rather than based on factual data (numbers).

The abstract is very general, delivering a more specific focus on the article's aim and its results.
The keywords are pretty poor, expand.
The article lacks a clear definition of the objective; the authors define it very broadly.
The literature review is quite poor and does not fully establish the grounds for exploring this issue. It would be useful to move from the broader context directly to the article's aim. For example, from the broader perspectives of Industry 4.0, I recommend:
DOI: 10.3390/su11030854
DOI: 10.3390/economies7030068
DOI: 10.3390/pr10030539
Figure 2 I recommend adding the previous steps of filtering case studies
The results are commented on clearly and can be considered helpful, but their contribution is not highlighted.
The discussion is well-conceived, and I have no significant comments.
