Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

There needs to be editing for spelling and sentence structure errors.  Line 105 is one case.  Clarification is needed for lines 127 and 137. "On the other hand" is used continuously; on page 11 it is used three times in the same paragraph and it is not clear why.

It is not  clear why Ecuador and Peru were used for the study, and it is possible that this study should be in two papers. Product Innovation, Process Innovation, Organizational Innovation, Marketing Innovation are addressed, but each are not clearly described and measured. It is difficult to follow the data as the reader moves from measure to measure in two countries for 6 hypotheses, four with a and b.  I believe the research is worthy of publication.  If the authors reviewed the explanations and conclusions as they address the data, I think this would be a good paper.

Reviewer 2 Report

I have carefully reviewed the paper about the State and dynamics of the innovative performance of medium and large firms in the manufacturing sector in emerging economies: The cases of Peru and Ecuador. The paper undoubtedly has a fascinating debate. The paper consolidated the solid theoretical background. Specifically, the authors have picked relevant literature to build the hypotheses and the empirical literature review.

-There are two types of factors that can influence firm performance or innovation: internal factors and external factors. The author does an excellent job of presenting both internal and external factors. This case is based on Peru and Ecuador firms, and the author should include the actual situation of the Peru and Ecuador firms. The statical form is appropriate for representing what is happening with the Peru and Ecuador firms.

-Authors should fill in the gaps and include a statement of novelty.

-Implementing innovation in organisations is a strategic activity. This study highlights the innovation implementation and describes its importance. Then, you suppose to come up with a gap between External Factors, Business Resources and economic performance of the firms from the literature review and posit the research questions that fill that particular gap. The gap is obscured, and scientific evidence is also missing to support your claims.

-Describe the control variable and its effect on the firm's performance. And how to control variables come up to cover the knowledge gap.

-The author uses the quantitative approach but needs to elaborate further, especially in the data collection procedure.

-For the methodology section, I suggest you come up with a sequence,

Participants and procedure

Sample and design

Variable measurement

Data reliability and validity

The discussion and conclusions should be separate.

The theoretical and practical implementations should be added.

Round 2

Reviewer 3 Report

The authors have followed my recommendations.  In my view, the manuscript may be published in its current form.
