Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear authors and academic colleagues,

You have presented relevant manuscripts on environmental knowledge, awareness of climate change, environmental education, and behavior and lifestyle for the younger generation. This is very interesting to publish. I suggest a "minor revision" to correct. There are still sections regarding writing guidelines, writing style, and clarity of compliance based on the standard rules applied at MDPI. Therefore, any changes must be carefully scrutinized. Hope you are always healthy.

All the best,

Anonymous reviewer

"The Nexus between Environmental Knowledge, Climate Change Awareness, Green Intentions, and Sustainable Household Consumption Practices among Chinese Youth: Exploring the Moderating Role of Environmental Education for Promoting a Clean Environment" is a research article that explores the relationship between environmental knowledge, climate change awareness, green intentions, and sustainable household consumption practices among Chinese youth, with a focus on the moderating role of environmental education in promoting a clean environment.

The article begins with a discussion of the importance of understanding the relationship between environmental knowledge, climate change awareness, green intentions, and sustainable household consumption practices, particularly among young people. The authors note that China has a large and expanding population of young people, who have the potential to play a significant role in promoting sustainable development and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The authors then describe their research methodology, which involved gathering data from university students in five Chinese cities. They used a quantitative research approach, collecting data from a total of 20 universities chosen at random. The authors used key ideas from earlier literature to guide the construction of constructs, and their opinions were supplemented by those of subject-matter specialists.

The article then presents the findings of the research, which indicate that there is a positive relationship between environmental knowledge, climate change awareness, green intentions, and sustainable household consumption practices among Chinese youth. The authors also found that environmental education plays a moderating role in promoting a clean environment, suggesting that incorporating environment-related courses into study plans could be an effective way to promote green intentions and environment-protecting actions. The article is devoted to the assessment youths' environmental knowledge, climate change awareness, environmental attitude, and their impact on pro-environmental intentions and sustainable household consumption. The relevance of the study is undeniable, since environmental education and environmental upbringing are designed to form in the student such an attitude to nature, which is based on environmental knowledge and contributes to the development of an active life position based on the awareness of personal responsibility for the decisions made and, in general, for the fate of nature and mankind. Universities play a special role in the field of adjusting the consciousness and values of future specialists who will have to make responsible decisions.

The authors in their work provide detailed information about the relevance and importance of conducting research in this direction, collected a sufficient amount of data from students with different levels of knowledge about the environment, and used modern methods of analysis.

The authors recommend that universities should make environment-related courses a compulsory subject for all students, as well as organizing frequent seminars and sessions with environmental experts to improve young people's environmental behavior. They suggest that environmental departments at universities should play a proactive and leading role in environmental awareness programs and that each university should have an environment department or at least one environmental expert as a faculty member for guiding students.

Overall, the article provides valuable insights into the relationship between environmental knowledge, climate change awareness, green intentions, and sustainable household consumption practices among Chinese youth. The authors' recommendations for incorporating environmental education into study plans and organizing seminars and sessions with environmental experts are particularly noteworthy, as they provide practical steps that universities and other institutions can take to promote a clean environment and sustainable development.

Finally, the authors suggest that extensive use of social media by students can also provide a way of informal education by arranging a competition among the students for environmental-oriented videos or speeches that must give an awareness message toward the adoption of sustainable practices.

As a note to the article, it should be taken into account that

-Additional to authors suggestion  understanding the ongoing climate processes in the Earth as a whole, to protect the environment, it is possible to recommend training not only for young people, but also for secondary school students and even children from kindergartens.

There are too many abbreviations in the texts and tables. A separate table could have been made to explain the abbreviation.

It should be noted that the article is written in a clear language, not overloaded with excessive terminology. The conclusions of the authors are quite reasonable. The results of the work can be useful to environmentalists, committees for environmental protection and educational institutions. The article shows scientific interest and is recommended for publication.
